Zyrardow National Health Fund To Pay For The Surgery Of Children With Clubfoot

Żyrardów. National Health Fund to Pay for the Surgery of Children With Clubfoot

28.04.2023 r.

The National Health Fund (NFZ) will finance the treatment of clubfoot in children.

This was announced by the Minister of Health Adam Niedzielski during a press conference in Żyrardów, where the National Rehabilitation Center for Children is located.

The Minister emphasized that this is a very important decision for many families in Poland, as clubfoot treatment is expensive and often not affordable for everyone.

The NFZ will cover the costs of conservative treatment, i.e. physiotherapy and orthoses, as well as surgical treatment.

Clubfoot is a congenital deformity of the foot that affects about one in a thousand children.

It is characterized by the inward curvature of the foot and the heel, which is turned inward and upward.

If left untreated, clubfoot can lead to disability and difficulty walking.

Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to improve the child's chances of normal development.

The treatment of clubfoot is a complex and long-lasting process.

It usually lasts several years and requires the cooperation of a team of specialists, including orthopedists, physiotherapists, and rehabilitation specialists.

The first stage of treatment is conservative treatment, which involves physiotherapy and the use of orthoses.

If conservative treatment does not bring the expected results, surgical treatment is necessary.

The National Health Fund will also finance the rehabilitation of children after surgery.

Rehabilitation is an important element of treatment, as it helps to restore the proper range of motion in the foot and to strengthen the muscles.

The Minister of Health stressed that the decision to finance the treatment of clubfoot in children is a step towards improving the health of Polish children.

He also announced that the NFZ is working on expanding the range of medical services covered by the Fund.
