Sudan Army Says It Repelled Largest Drone Attack On El Fasher

Sudan army says it repelled ‘largest drone attack’ on El Fasher

The African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) has confirmed the attack, saying two of its vehicles were hit.

The attack comes amid heightened tensions in the region following a military coup in Sudan last month.

The Sudanese army says it has repelled the “largest drone attack” ever launched against the capital of North Darfur state, El Fasher. The attack, which took place on Monday, involved multiple drones targeting military and civilian locations in the city.

According to the Sudanese army, the drones were launched from neighboring Libya and were targeting military bases, government buildings, and civilian infrastructure. The army said it was able to shoot down several of the drones, but some were able to reach their targets.

The African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) has confirmed the attack, saying two of its vehicles were hit. UNAMID said the attack took place at around 5:30 am local time and involved multiple drones.

The attack comes amid heightened tensions in the region following a military coup in Sudan last month. The coup has led to widespread protests and international condemnation.

The Sudanese government has accused Libya of being behind the drone attack, but Libya has denied involvement. The attack is the latest in a series of cross-border attacks between Sudan and Libya in recent months.

The drone attack on El Fasher is a reminder of the ongoing security challenges in Sudan and the wider Darfur region. The attack also highlights the growing threat of drones in warfare and the need for international cooperation to address this threat.
